Under the title Versuchsstätte Bauhaus. The collection tells the history of the famous school in Dessau with more than 1000 exhibits. It describes the Bauhaus as a lively place where people learned and taught, experimented artistically and worked on industrial prototypes.

With around 49,000 objects, the collection of the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation is the second largest and at the same time one of the youngest collections on the Bauhaus worldwide: the first purchase was made in 1976 in the former GDR. Since then, it has grown steadily. Its profile is shaped above all by student works, records from lessons, drafts and prototypes from the workshops.

For this reason, the exhibition Versuchsstätte Bauhaus does not focus on the well-known design icons and their masters, but on the school and its students. The thematic chapters concentrate on the teaching concept and the teaching work, on the Bauhaus as a versatile "testing ground", as a cooperation partner for industry and as a bustling communicator.
